Telephone Advisory Committees Dissolved.

The D.T.O. has dissolved the TAC of all India, which had about 16,000 members, with a free phone facility of 1150 calls per member for two months period. Thus a TAC Member was getting financial benefit of Rs. 8800/- per year as free phone facility. Further the DOT was spending Rs.3000/- per member for convening TAC Meetings in a year, thus totally costing Rs.20, 00,00,000/- per year. The BSNL will thus have a savings of Rs. Twenty Crore per year. The orders have been implemented and all such telephone disconnected. The system was evolved in the time of Mr. Rajesh Pilot to have interaction of people's representatives and there was some problem in the time of Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan.Source: Sandesh Daily: 29-9-2001.

MTNL Chief:

The Delhi High Court has upheld the appointment of Nareinder Sharma, as CMD of MTNL, saying there was no merit in a writ petition challenging it. His appointment was challenged by Director (Technical) MTNL, G.D. Gathia on the grounds that he was not eligible for the post as per public enterprises selection board rules (PTI)
